Sock Aficionado Mickey

We made it! Took us only 24 hours but we made it from Tokyo to Cambridge in the end and now I am sitting here and doing some laundry, surfing the internet and looking for jobs whilst the dog Mickey (the very proud and latest addition to the Fletcher family) steals my socks and hides them everywhere.

Apparently that’s normal seeing as he is a sock aficionado … and he understands German commands like “Sit!”, “Out of the bed!” and “Don’t do that!” … which almost exceeds Adam’s German vocabulary

Only one more night to go and then heading back to the fatherland. YAY!

PS.: This one is a bit delayed seeing that I didn’t have time before doing the final picture upload which I btw just finished … just pretend this one has been published let’s say two weeks ago? Many thanks for your cooperation.

Poetry of Couchsurfing

The basic concept of couchsurfing is to crash on other people’s couches or to let people crash on yours - for free. The nice idea behind this is to get to know and meet locals. Great idea - seeing as we had the most memorable memories when meeting interesting people, I created an account and had to realize that the plan didn’t work too well for Japan .

As the Japanese are quite insular, some local knowledge and insight would have been great …

Anyhow, as we are heading to Osaka and Kyoto next, I had a look at couchsurfing and one of the profiles had an almost poetic touch to it:

His couch information:

I cannot speak English well.

guesthouse is in a place a little away from my house.
It is an old house in Japan.
Please sleep with the futon of Japan.

There are bride and three children.
The cigarette is not smoked.
There is a bus stop ahead of the guesthouse.
There is bedding of Japan (futon) for six.

His Philosophy:

Do not trouble the person.

Just brilliant .

No luck couchsurfingwise in Kyoto either …

Deutsche Stereotype

Ich hör das natürlich gern, wenn man mir mit schöner Regelmässigkeit sagt, dass ich einen guten Sinn für Humor hab, witzig oder wahlweise lustig bin, vor allem als Deutsche.

Kurze geschmeicheltes Lächeln und dann mal die Gegenfragen, wieviel Deutsche man denn kennt?

Die Antwort reicht von: „… Ähm keine …” *ganz kleinlaut gugg* (AHA! In die Klischeefalle getappt!)

Bis: „… Och … ein gutes Dutzend vielleicht?! Sehr arbeits- und strebsam, aber Humor???”

Und denk ich mir so, na eigentlich is das voll ungerechtfertigt, denn die Deutschen, die mir so über die Wege laufen, haben in der Regel durchaus einen Sinn für Humor - jetzt nicht wirklich subtil aber dennoch Humor … und bestimmt auch nicht jeder, auch nicht jeder Brite is witzig, aber doch so generell tät ich das schon finden, dass wir Humor haben tun … Schade, dass sich das im Ausland noch nicht rumgesprochen hat … Naja, ich arbeite jedenfalls fleissig am Abbau dieses Klischees und lass euch wissen, wenn ich damit erfolgreich war.

EIn kleiner aber feiner Beitrag zu Online-Freuden, über die ich am WE zufällig gestolpert bin.

Bin durch Zufall drauf gestossen (hab bei NEON rumgestöbert und da hatte das einer in den Kommentaren stehen - Peng! und schon hab ich es im Blog )

Und ich mag das sogar sehr; frag mich dann natürlich immer, warum mir sowas nicht einfällt.  Die Tatsache, dass es so einfach und leicht aussieht, einem aber selber dennoch nicht einfällt und eigentlich mal wieder Lieblingsthema “Alltag” abgegrast wird, macht es so genial - meine bescheiden Meinung dazu.

Auf jeden Fall mal “The Boyfriends I have been” und für alle Freunde der Englischen Kultur passt “Subtext” wieder wie die Faust aufs Auge und der Arsch auf Eimer.
